Know Your Limits

Image
Well, I must admit I'm extremely lucky. Last Wednesday, during my camping trip, I had a mountain biking accident. All things considered, I came out better than I deserved. With some family friends, we all drove up the Kimberley ski hill in BC. The plan was to ride down and get ice cream, not a hospital trip. While going down the hill, I was probably going a good 60km/h. With my turn coming up, I grabbed the brakes. Well, long story short, my back wheel locked up and the bike and I flew over the curb. At that time, 50km/h wouldn't be an unreasonable guess. My landing wasn't the softest either, diving headfirst into boulders, about 10 feet down. Even though I suffered no head injuries, my memory of those 35-40 feet in the air is foggy. I just remember being pretty spooked. However, my sister and I deduced by my injuries that I must've done a (pretty sloppy) shoulder roll to break my fall. I guess 12 years of instinct can really come in handy at times like this. To say...

Keeping up consistency

Well, starting tomorrow, my family and I are going camping for a week. My goal for these 7 days is to keep training consistently. No matter how exhausting a day in the mountains can be, I'm going to do my best to keep up my numbers. So, apologies for the small post. As well, apologies in advance for my absence this next week.

Progress

In my opinion, I've really stepped up my training over the last year. Last year, I'd've never thought my training would've been so different this year than then. This was really brought to my attention last Thursday, when Sifu Brinker asked us to reflect on our training up to this point. Even just a year ago, I would've thought spending up to 10 hours here a week on the mats (as opposed to 2) would be horrible and unattainable. Now, spending time here is always a pleasure, no matter how exhausting and painful it can be. Even if the IHC year were to end today, with many of my goals unfinished, I would still believe it was a success, simply by seeing how much my training has evolved.

Update no. 3

Well, not much to say this week. However, I've completed one of my personal goals for this year. It was to achieve all -1 classes for my grade 10 year. This would require both good grades and good teacher relations, as it's difficult to get into -1 courses without good grades or teacher recommendations. So that's one goal to check off this year!

Canada Day

Well, to say the least, yesterday was eventful. This was my first time doing Canada Day with Kung Fu, and to be honest,  I was nervous. This was going to be by far the largest crowd I'd preformed for. As well, it was my first time doing a demo being a part of the dragon. I didn't do great, but I felt I achieved a bit by preforming for so many people so many times (considering I'd only learned how less than a month ago). Yesterday was a fun learning experience that I'd never been a part of before. I can't wait to do it again, no matter how exhausting and nerve wracking 6 demos back-to-back may be.
