Summer Vacation Mentality

Well, I'm excited for summer. With school winding down and the days getting hotter, it's almost disappointing to have to spend time in class. However, this doesn't mean I can start slacking off. Many people I know (sometimes myself included) end up lazing away the last stretch of school, being ready for summer, when it's still May. So, it's that time of year again. With only a week left, I'm going to do all I can to stay focused and engaged in school, no matter how tempting the summer vacation lifestyle may be. I think this ties in well with Kung fu training. Though this is my first year of IHC, I bet the "summer vacation" mentality happens to everyone at one time or another. From now on, I'm going to be on a constant lookout for this type of laziness in myself, and make an effort to dismiss it as quickly as I can.

Yet Another Running Update

Alright. So, as some of you may know, one of my personal goals is to run 10k in under 43 minutes. As well, this blog is coming a bit late because I ran a 10k race this weekend. Which is going to be this post's topic. Well to say the least, my goal is unbroken. However, I was able to set a personal best, at 43:52 which put me in 22nd place out of the almost 900 runners. So in that regard, I didn't do too badly. Well I'm just going to have to keep training in order to break my goal. All I need to do is shave less than 6 seconds off per kilometre. It sounds simple but I know it's going to take a lot of training through the hot summer days. At least progress is being made though.

Rainy Days

I don't really have a direction in mind for this post, but I'd at least like to have a little announcement. Next week, I'm going to be posting a blog later than usual, on Monday. This will be because I have a race the day before, and I'd like to write next week's post about that. Well there's one good thing that comes from bad weather. Generally, it keeps us indoors most of the day. Usually, this sucks. But every once in a while, it's nice to stay inside. The reason I'm bringing this up in this post is because rainy days honestly help keep me more on track with my daily requirements. Because I stay inside most of the day , I get bored quickly. And when I'm bored, I just like to put in some numbers. So in conclusion, it's nice sometimes to have a day with little distraction, as it gives time to focus on some Kung Fu.

A Fun Day

Yesterday, I was part of the Farmer's Days parade. Though I don't feel like this is going to be a very substantial blog, I'd just like to share a thought or two I have about my experience in this community event. I felt being part of this parade was a pretty amazing way to connect with the community. Not only were we able to showcase some Kung Fu in a very public way, I also felt we were also able to connect well with some of the younger members of our community. Being in one of the lions in the parade, I felt very involved and felt almost a personal connection to some of the little kids watching the parade. Sure, we might've scared some of them, but most of the kids were amazed by our Kung Fu. I think this was pretty great. Well, I know this isn't a 10/10 blog but this is all I have on my mind at the moment.
