Year of the Pig - Post 1

Well, this is definetely my most shameful journal posting yet.  As some of you may have noticed, it's my first of the year. I don't really know why I put it off for so long, and I'm super relieved to get writing this. It's going to be a long one...

The IHC year started right around when my second semester started, so I had to adapt to an entirely new schedule. This semester, I'm taking two 20-level courses, math and biology. I decided to take these early so I can have a flexible schedule next year, when I'm planning on participating in the Germany exchange program. In fact, that was one of my personal goals this year, to be elligible and apply for the Germay exchange. To do this, I need to submit an application, which I've done, and do well in German class. So far, so good, as I've got a 98% in that class. As well, because I'm doing grade 11 courses this year, I had to bump my English language arts course off my timetable. I'm doing this course at home. To be honest, it's probably my most hated thing to do. The work is extremely repetitive, and I'm not learning much from it. However, I'm working on getting it done, and I'm planning on having part 2/7 done by the end of this week.

Another personal goal of mine is to be able to do muscle-ups, which are basically an evolved pull-up. So far, I'm unable to do them, so I'm just working on upper body strength through simple pull-ups. So far, this has been pretty fun to work on. I'm able to fit this workout into my schedule pretty easily. As you might know, my family has dogs, which need to be fed twice daily. Conveniently, the dog food and pull-up bar are right next to each other in the garage. So I find it pretty easy to just hop up and get some done while I'm there. I'm making some good progress on this goal.

My weapon form this year is coming along well. Although I've got a from done, the only tough part is practicing at home. You've probably seen me swinging it around on the mats, and can understand why doing that in my living room isn't the easiest thing in the world. I'm super excited for spring and the snow melting, as I'll be able to swing around my bat to my heart's content.

It's weird how a little change to an already established schedule can wreck the whole thing. Throughout basically all of last year, I wrote my blog posts in the hot tub. This was just my routine. Every Sunday evening, I'd soak in the tub and write my blog. This is tough, however, when it's -40 outside. Our lovely February weather kept me inside on those Sunday nights, throwing off my routine. And I'm mad at how I looked at writing a blog after missing just a few. For some reason, I thought putting it off would make the situation better, as I'd just avoid my responsibility for longer... and longer... I noticed this mindset slowly creeping into other parts of my life, and I'm appaled at myself for allowing it to get so prevalent. This post being so delayed is an example. Ever since I realized this, I've been making a conscious effort to shut down this mindset. And to be honest, I didn't realize how much it affected me. I've been a lot more productive since this mindset shift, and look forwards to the improvements when I'm 100% done with this unproductive mindset.

Don't worry. This dry spell of blogs is done. I'm going to see how a twice-a-week blog schedule works for the next while, as I have quite a few to catch up on.

See you on the mats!
